What does "Case Was Received" mean on myUSCIS?
"Case Was Received" means USCIS accepted your petition, assigned it a 13-character receipt number, and placed it in the queue for adjudication. Processing time begins from this date. No action is required from you — wait for the next status update based on the posted processing time for your form type. H-1B I-129: 3–6 months standard; I-485: 8–24+ months; I-140: 6–12 months standard. If your case sits longer than the posted range, submit an out-of-normal-processing-time inquiry at egov.uscis.gov/e-request.
How long does USCIS premium processing take in 2026?
Premium processing is 15 business days for H-1B, O-1, O-2, L-1, L-2, E-2, and I-140 petitions, as of the USCIS premium-processing fee update. USCIS must either adjudicate the case or issue an RFE / NOID within those 15 business days. If an RFE is issued, premium processing stops until you respond — then resumes for adjudication of your response. An RFE reissue is a new RFE notice from USCIS, typically issued when the original RFE deadline is approaching and you have not yet responded, or when USCIS needs additional evidence after your response. The RFE response window resets (typically a new 87-day clock starts). A reissue is sometimes issued if your original answer was incomplete and the officer wants a second chance before issuing a denial. The fastest resolution is always to fully respond to the original RFE well before the deadline rather than waiting for a reissue.
